Forest & Sandridge CofE Primary School is proud to announce the grand opening of its brand-new, all-weather football pitch, officially named ‘The Liz Bell Stadium’ in honour of a beloved and long-serving member of staff.

This new artificial pitch marks a significant milestone in the school’s ongoing expansion and growth plan. The pitch was made possible, thanks to funding from Wiltshire County Council—available as part of local infrastructure investment linked to nearby construction of new housing developments—the school now boasts a year-round sports pitch that will benefit pupils, staff, and the wider community.

“We are extremely excited to have a facility that we can use throughout the year, regardless of the weather,” said Headteacher, Scott James. “It will enhance our PE provision, providing a fantastic space for breaktimes, and allow us to host sporting events, including those involving other primary schools in Melksham.”

The pitch will also be made available to local sports clubs and community groups outside of school hours, further strengthening the school’s role as a hub for local engagement and activity.

In a heartfelt tribute, the pitch has been named ‘The Liz Bell Stadium’ to honour Mrs Liz Bell, who is retiring this summer after an extraordinary 32 years of service at the school. Over her career, Mrs Bell has taught more than 1,000 children and positively impacted thousands more. Her passion for physical education and commitment to providing extracurricular and competitive opportunities have left lasting memories.

“Mrs Bell has made an outstanding contribution to Forest & Sandridge, over the last three decades.” The Headteacher added. “We now have parents, staff, and members of the local community who were once taught by her. Naming the pitch in her honour is a fitting way to celebrate her legacy.”

Dan Nicholls, CEO at The White Horse Federation, added; “This is a fantastic development that will bring together our school and local communities. It provides opportunities for those who might not otherwise have access to such facilities and highlights the dedication of our staff and Trust partners, who continue to inspire lives.”

The school community gathered for an official ribbon-cutting ceremony to mark the opening of the stadium, followed by a showcase of student sports activities.
