Forest and Sandridge celebrated Outdoor Classroom day on Monday 23rd May by taking a whole range of lessons and learning outside.
Apple, Cherry and Seedlings released our butterflies into the wild that we had been growing from tiny caterpillars in a pot in Seedlings. It was an amazing experience for the children, we have learnt a lot about lifecycles and how to take care of minibeasts.
Year 1 played ‘What’s the time Mr Wolf’ to consolidate their learning on time. The children then enjoyed playing the game by themselves during playtimes.
Year 2 went on a nature walk in the local area to compare habitats with those found in the school grounds. The children loved discovering minibeasts, a variety of plants and the animals who visit the brook. In the morning, they had also made a healthy sandwich to take with them which they enjoyed eating in the park.
Year 3 read some nonsense poetry and then had great fun acting it out!
Year 4 took their Maths learning outside. Converting fractions into decimals can be a challenge but with fresh air in their lungs, everyone sailed through the task and used chalk to record their giant answers on the playground!
Year 5 and 6 went on a Maths fraction and percentages trail around the school grounds – exercising their bodies as well as their brains!
Everyone enjoyed learning outside – being in the fresh air, being active and amongst nature helps healthy bodies and healthy minds!
