Forest & Sandridge For Parents

Holly Class

Hello and Welcome to Holly Class! We are so excited to be back at school with the children settling into our year 1. We have had a great start to the year already and all children have loved being back in school, ready to learn alongside their friends.

In Holly Class, our teacher is Mrs Baines and our teaching assistants are Mrs Morris and Mrs Chilcott.

Mrs Jen Baines Teacher/Lower School Phase Leader
Mrs Tracey Morris Teaching Assistant
Mrs Carli Caven Teaching Assistant

Term 1

Our first topic of the year is ‘Me on the map’. We will be looking at our local area of Melksham as well as creating our own simple maps.

We are staring off the year this year with a ‘Continuous Provision’ approach to Year 1, where the children are still able to choose parts of their learning as well as completing group and adult led tasks.

Things to remember

PE

Holly Class currently have PE on a Monday morning. Please can you make sure their PE kits are in school and ensure ALL kit is named. They will need kit for both indoor and outdoor PE as we will do a mixture of the two. We will send PE kits home regularly to be washed.

Reading

We will change books every Monday. Your child will have a reading book and reading record. Please try to read with your child at least 5 x per week to help with their reading progress and enjoyment of learning. This does not always have to be their school book – any literature is great for them to read!

If your child would like to do some extra phonics, phonics play website has some great games which the children really enjoy.
