Forest & Sandridge For Parents

Apple Class

In Apple class our teacher is Miss Gale. We are really lucky to have three teaching
assistants working alongside us. These are Miss Davies, Mrs Jackson and Miss Bryant.
We have a very exciting year planned ahead!

Theme

This term we will be getting to know each other, establish routines and get to know the
classroom and school. Our theme is called ‘Marvellous Me’. We will use this to inspire
some of our learning and activities. During this theme we will be thinking about
ourselves, our families and how we are different/similar.

PE

We will be having PE on a Thursday. Please make sure that your child brings in their PE
Kit on a Thursday only, this will then be sent home on the same day so that is can be
washed and returned the following Thursday. Please ensure your child’s PE kit is clearly
labelled. Children will need both outdoor and indoor PE kits. Your Class teacher will let
you know via Dojo when PE kits will start being needed.

Bike Ability Sessions

Apple class will be having a balance bike lesson on a Tuesday morning, beginning Tuesday
22nd September. Children will need to bring their own helmet in for these sessions,
please ensure helmets are in a labelled plastic bag.

Reading Books

Once the children are more settled and we have begun teaching our Phase 2
phonics, we will be sending children home with 1 reading book per week. Please
try to read with your child regularly. Your child will have a set day on which they
will be read with in school, however please ensure your child’s reading record
and book are in their school bag daily.

We will have a reading display in our class where the children can work towards
earning a prize for brilliant reading at home. Reading books will be changed on a
MONDAY for all children and must be returned on a FRIDAY in order for them
to be quarantined over the weekend.

If you have any questions or worries, please contact Miss Gale via Class Dojo.

Our theme in term 4 is ‘A Long Time Ago’. We will be learning, exploring and finding out about different types of dinosaurs. During our phonics learning this term, we will be re-capping Phase 3 in order to become more confident before starting on Phase 4 sounds later in the term. We are will be continuing to become more independent in our reading and writing, using the sounds that we already know. In maths we will continue to explore teen numbers and become more confident in addition and subtraction – using number sentences to support our learning.

PE

We will be having our PE lesson on a Tuesday morning. Children need to have their PE kit in school and clearly labelled. It would be really helpful if you could practice getting changed independently as much as possible at home. This term we will be doing PE inside, we will let you know when outdoor kit is needed.

Balance bikes

Apple class will be having a balance bike lessons also on a Tuesday morning. For these children will change into their trainers. Helmets are provided for the session.

Home learning

Within the next few weeks your child will come home with reading books. Please can you read as much as possible at home and record it in the reading record. We will also be sending home some phonics activities for you to have a go at. Children will be given a home learning folder with some activity ideas related to our theme. Key words are being checked and sent home every week. These are designed for you to use them in a variety of ways at home to help your child learn them by sight. Please make sure they come back in on their book change day so we can add the next set. It is important that you continue to practice all of your child’s keywords, even if they have been ticked off, to avoid them forgetting these words.

WOW slips

Please record any ‘Wow’ moments from home on the wow slips and send them into school for us to share with the class. These should not be used weekly, they are for really special moments/achievements which make you go ‘wow’! If you need any more wow slips please ask.
