Forest & Sandridge About Us

Admissions

Overview

We welcome all children to Forest & Sandridge School and enjoy celebrating the different backgrounds, experiences, and interests they have. From the moment your child arrives in the school, they can be sure of receiving a warm welcome and support and nurturing from all the staff who work with them. Our staff share the primary aim of keeping all children safe and helping them achieve their potential during their time with us.

All admission applications are coordinated through Wiltshire Council. If you wish to apply for a reception place for September or a place at any other time of the year, you can do so using the link below.

We also have paper application forms available at school if you prefer. We are more than happy to offer any support you require with your application, so please ask in the school office if you need assistance.

Appeals

Firstly, if you wanted to secure a place for your child at our school and were not successful, we are very sorry. We know how hard this is.

If you are considering appealing the decision, our Headteacher, Anna Willcox, would like the opportunity to meet with you (on the phone during current pandemic) prior to you submitting your appeal. Please read the letter below and follow the instructions to book your appointment:

Following the meeting, you will be able to complete and submit your appeal paperwork if you choose to proceed. All the information you will need can be found below.

Infant Class Size Laws

Please note that there is a law in this country about the size of infant (age 4-7) classes and that it is illegal, unless under exceptional circumstances, for a class to be larger than 30. It is unlikely that an appeal, in the case of rejection due to infant class size, will be successful because of this law. At our school we take 60 children (2 classes of 30) which means that ours is an infant class size case. The only reason an appeal in an infant class size case would be successful is if it is proved that the admissions authority had made an error or not followed admission procedures correctly.

Please do not hesitate to contact our Senior Pupil Services Officer, Liz Wakeley, at liz.wakeley@forestsandridge.wilts.sch.uk if you require further information or have any questions about the information provided.

The timetable for appeals is as follows:

What to Expect

Children will be invited to attend 2 play sessions at school before they start. New parents will receive a letter with details of these and their child’s start dates at school by the end of June.

Class teachers will visit your child at their preschool setting in June. They will also invite you into school with your child before the children start in September for an informal consultation.

This will be a chance for you to chat on a 1:1 basis with your child’s teacher and for your child to explore their new classroom with you. Details of these sessions will be given out at the play sessions.

Applications to attend any of The White Horse Federation's schools are welcomed from all families. If your child was born between 1st September 2015 and 31st August 2016, you need to apply for a primary or infant school place by 15th January 2020.

For more information on our admission policy, the admission process, key dates, and how to apply, please see our policy documents on the right.
