History of the School
Forest & Sandridge Church of England Aided School is situated at the foot of Sandridge Hill on land originally given by the Hon. Ralph Ludlow Lopes, the then occupant of Sandridge Park.
The school originally consisted on two classrooms with a teacher's house attached and was opened in 1874.
The school was modernised and extended in 1968 to include three classrooms, kitchen and indoor toilet and cloakroom accommodation. It has a playing field adjacent to the school.
In 1990 additional accommodation was created by conversion of the old school house into Staff Room, Library, Offices and Resources Areas.
In 1994 a double mobile classroom was erected on the school field and in 1998 a single mobile classroom was added. In 2001 the school kitchen was converted into a classroom. Another single mobile was added, in 2004, giving the school a total of seven classes and a hall.
In April 2006 we extended our smallest classroom which has made it into a much more workable classroom.
In the Summer of 2006 we converted one of our group rooms into a food preparation area which is used for serving and organising our school meals, group work and cookery.
During the summer of 2007 we had the whole school redecorated and the Key Stage 2 toilets renovated... a long awaited project!
Our newest completed projects are the new mobile classroom which Oak Class moved into just before Christmas, our new library and our brand new foyer.
In Oak Class (Year 6) the children now have the space and the environment they need and deserve. Their old classroom (which was the school kitchen before that!) is now our new library. It is a bright and vibrant room which is used by whole classes for developing library skills, groups for small group work and also adults for meetings. It is, already, a well-used resource and proving to be of great benefit to us.
These changes have also meant that we have had the space to move our school office into the old library. This is a much improved space and the office is now much more welcoming. We have now had the old office wall and the wall up the stairs knocked down and have converted this area into a brand new, vibrant, bright and welcoming foyer. It has made a huge difference to the welcoming feel of the school and we are thrilled with the results. This area is also used for group or individual learning.
Please come and visit... we'd love to see you!
