Welcome to Chestnut Class!
We will be looking at different Victorian inventors and how their inventions have changed the course of history. The different inventors we will be looking at are: Marie Curie (the person who discovered radium), George Stephenson (the inventor of the stem engine), Thomas Edison (the inventor or the lightbulb) Isambard Kingdom Brunel (the inventor of the steamship) and Alexander Bell (the inventor of the telephone.)
We are also going to be reading 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory' by Roald Dahl in class. This is a really exciting book and the children are already really looking forward to it. If you have a copy of this book please bring it in (named!) so that we can all share the book as we are reading :)
We are a Year 3/4 class and our teacher is Mrs Hiscocks Monday - Thursday.
We have Mrs Bacon to teach us every Friday.
Our TA's in Chestnut Class are Mrs Dequidt and Miss Usher.
In Middle School we also have Mrs Rivers, Mrs Andrews and Mrs Morris who sometimes work with us.
We are all looking forward to a great year in our new class!
We will be doing Outdoor Learning for the first 5 weeks of Term 3. Please make sure you bring warm/ old clothes, coat and wellies!
Middle school will be swimming every Tuesday in Term 3,4 and 5
beginning Tuesday 17th 2017.
Please remember swimming kit, long hair should be tied back and hats worn,
and googles if you would like.
PE may be on different days so
please can all (indoor and outdoor) PE kit be in school at all times. Thank you.
Daily reading will be set as homework.
Please remind your parents to sign contact book so that you can move up the Reading Rocket!
Spellings will be set on a Friday and you will be tested the next Friday .
A Home Learning task will be set on a Friday. The next Friday an optional task will be set on Class Pages.
As part of this theme we will be studying different countries around the world. We will be studying South Africa, China, Brazil, Japan and Norway. If you have visited any of these countries or have objects or photographs you are willing to share with us we would be very grateful.
As part of our study of each country we will be reading a class text as using it as the basis for our reading and writing lessons. These texts will include
The Butterfly Lion, The Firework Makers Daughter, Kensuke's Kingdom and How to Train your Dragon. if you have any copies of these texts at home already you are very welcome to bring your copy into school. Make sure it is named please!
